The Rt Hon Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja on Saturday 02-october 2021 visited Bukinda in Kyangwali subcounty, Kikuube District. This came after a petition was presented to her by the woman MP, Hon Florence Natumanya on behalf of the evicted people of Bukinda.

In her remarks while meeting the different leaders at Kasonga the Prime Minister vowed that this land dispute will be settled and that is her priority. She further stressed that any OPM staff found to be involved in illegal ownership of land titles on this said land will be dealt with accordingly .

The delegation, which also included the minister for lands, minister of state for public service, minister of state for Transport &works, minister of state, Relief, disaster preparedness and refugees further went to Bukinda were people had been evicted and Kyeya where they had been resettled to ascertain the conditions in which people are living in and on their way, the PM saw temporary structures being erected on the contested land which she condemned. While addressing people at Bukinda, the Rt Hon PM ordered the immediate halting of resettling new refugees on this land and also stopped all construction until the matter is finally resolved.

Hon Nabanja also promised to fast track this conflict by reviewing all reports and directives of the president. She immediately called for a meeting involving representatives and leaders from Kikuube at her chambers this week.

But immediately the premier Left the district activities where spotted continuing.

The kyangwali refugees camp cammandat was spotted with trucks of people/refugees planting trees on the same land over 40 acres and the construction of houses by newly resettled refugees continuing.

The community in conjunction with the local Leadership lead by area councilor Hon. Nestor called on the kikuube DPC to intervene on the matter they said it was against the prime Minister's directives.

Hon. Nestor further stated that, if the cammandat doesn't follow his bosses command then the community/evicted people are going to make a come back to their land and no one will be able to remove them again.

On arrival, the kikuube DPC Asiimwe he thanked the people of Bukinda for following the right procedures of informing the responsible authorities over the matter and encouraged them to continue doing the same since we're a law governed country.

When asked as to why he breached the prime Minister's orders, the commandant defend his team by saying that, all they knew was they where stopped resettling on more refugees and building up more structures but other programs at hand like planting of trees under DRDIP would continue.

The DPC, then went a head to stop all activities on the land by the cammandat until the next directives come from the prime minister or the president.

He warned that if any body tries/tempers to breach the premiers orders ounce again that he/she will end behind bars.

It should be remembered over 24 villages in Bukinda and katikara where evicted by OPM-kyangwali refugees settlement with claims that the people encroached on the refugees settlement land, many where resettled in kyeya and many others never had an opportunity to be placed anywhere as others died!.

ABOUT US

CommNews&Info is the Refugee Press Team with members in the U.S, Canada and Uganda. We report on refugee news and other information from refugee camps and settlements and many places they are resettled to in the west.

Our Plan is to avail News, Information and Technologies to remote places, specifically the refugee camps. Our founder realized that there isn't enough effort to get refugees informed making them vulnerable to fake news, misinformation in general, and rumors, something we are addressing.

CommNews&Info is owned by Refugee News and Information Africa Limited (RNIA Ltd.). Among other things we are planning to address is the need for eLearning for schools through providing connectivity in the form of WiFi so students can easily surf the web at schools and in public places.

We also support education for young girls through The Falone Girls Fund.
