By Ushu Mukelo | Kyangwali News

A boat belonging to a Panyimur based Alur cultural leader capsized near the Songa-Lendu fish landing site in Buliisa district claiming tens of lives. The boat according to its captain who was only identified as Jakisa, was carrying 57 people and merchandise. According to Victor Uwachigiu, a survivor who swam to the lake shores with a 1 year and half years old child on his back, the accident was due to bad weather and an inexperienced steersman who failed to maneuver through the storm.

Uwachigiu's claim of what happened was not corroborated by the Special Police Constable (SPC) and KItahura LCI defense, Mr. Rogers Businge who said the accident was due to overloading and faulty engines. Only 21 people, mostly men were rescued by fishermen and according to Sgt Moses Nuwamanya, the sector Intelligence officer, some of the survivors were receiving treatment at Buliisa General Hospital.

ABOUT US

CommNews&Info is the Refugee Press Team with members in the U.S, Canada and Uganda. We report on refugee news and other information from refugee camps and settlements and many places they are resettled to in the west.

Our Plan is to avail News, Information and Technologies to remote places, specifically the refugee camps. Our founder realized that there isn't enough effort to get refugees informed making them vulnerable to fake news, misinformation in general, and rumors, something we are addressing.

CommNews&Info is owned by Refugee News and Information Africa Limited (RNIA Ltd.). Among other things we are planning to address is the need for eLearning for schools through providing connectivity in the form of WiFi so students can easily surf the web at schools and in public places.

We also support education for young girls through The Falone Girls Fund.
