Africell Uganda has partnered with MTN Uganda to help their customers buy airtime and data using mobile money cash. The program called "assisted payment" will make it easier for customers of Africell to use the financial services of the latter.
While unveiling the plan at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala, Africell Sales Director Alex Wekoye said that they were trying to use MTN’s extensive mobile money infrastructure to “deliver value to our customers", reported Howwebiz Uganda. According to analysts, this strategy will help boost Africell's customer services due to the fact that many people rely on the Mobile Money services provided by MTN Ug.
MTN Uganda General Manager (GM) for Mobile Financial Services Christopher Ssali explained that this would work by the Africell customers visiting a mobile money agent and the agent will dial USSD code *165*7# to activate the transaction. He explained that after this is done, the agent will then access the following prompts: Pay for Customer>Select Africell Service>Number>Value of Service>PIN.
This comes after Uganda banned the use of scratch cards which means Africell customers are now able to use this service at their convenience since most of the transactions are now done electronically.
With Africell Uganda, you can also buy airtime and data through POS services like PayWay, Eezy Money or banks like Stanbic and DFCU.
Unfortunately, this service can not be done by the customers themselves which means you have to go to the Mobile Money Agent.
